Tourist lift to transport visitors to Trapezitsa hill
A tourist lift will make the wonderful Trapezitsa Fortress in Veliko Turnovo easily accessible for tourists. The facility has been constructed under a project worth BGN 4.6 million won by the Ministry of Culture funded by the operative programme ‘’Regional development’’. The total length of the funicular railway is 135 m and the capacity of the cabin is for 25 people. The lift will move at an average speed of 1.6 m/s and in just two minutes from the foothill upwards.
This lift is part of a project on the turning of the historically valuable Trapezitsa hill into a tourist product. As part of the joint project, a museum on the hill is about to be opened and the churches will be turned into tourist attractions.
The Mayor of the Veliko Turnovo Municipality explained that BGN 1.5 million more are necessary for the fortification of the western and the eastern walls of the hill as well as for the completing works on the infrastructure. The sum of BGN 1.5 million has already been approved by the government and it is expected to be granted from the republican budget.
